Here at Olson Orthodontics in Litchfield and Buckeye, AZ, we believe in treating each of our patient’s individual orthodontic needs with personalized care and special attention, so we have put together everything you need to know about Damon Braces and traditional braces—now you can understand which treatment is best for you!

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces employ a system of brackets and wires to apply pressure on your teeth, making space for crooked teeth to straighten out or closing gaps between teeth. Traditional braces tie down and bind the wire into place with elastic or steel ties - the elastic ties can come in various colors that many people associate with braces. Unfortunately these ties can discolor, trap bacteria, and even break or poke a patient. Since the wire is what moves the teeth and these ties apply force on the wire, they may create increased levels of friction that make it take longer to straighten teeth, and they may require greater force to move teeth.

Damon Braces

Damon Braces look similar to traditional braces, except they work using a system of “self-ligating” brackets that don't require elastic ties to hold the wire in place, allowing the archwire to move more efficiently. This advanced orthodontic technology allows pressure to be applied more evenly which often means fewer trips to the orthodontist, more comfortable treatment, and overall shorter time in braces compared to traditional braces. Another advantage of Damon braces is that the self-ligating brackets allow the wire to broaden and expand smiles, which many people prefer when thinking about their ideal smile. Damon braces can expand and broaden smiles in patients of any age, so in most cases, extra appliances like expanders are not needed, even in children. With the ability to correct even severe crowding, permanent teeth rarely need to be extracted when using Damon braces. All these advantages can save patients time and money, as well as avoid unnecessary pain and discomfort. If you are looking for fast, comfortable treatment that produces amazing smiles, then Damon braces may be right for you..
